LaGrange College and Emory University’s Candler School of Theology recently signed an agreement giving LC students the opportunity to earn their undergraduate and divinity degrees in six years.

In the 3+3 Master of Divinity program, students complete 90 credits, their religion major and their core curriculum at LaGrange and then finish their fourth year concurrently with their first year of Divinity School at Emory. After the first year, 30 credits will be transferred back to LaGrange, where students will receive their Bachelor of Arts degree.

The Candler School of Theology became part of Emory University in 1915. It is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

“LaGrange already had an agreement with Candler that allowed for automatic admission to their program for our students who met certain admission criteria,” said Dr. Brian Peterson, vice president for academic affairs. “Deepening an already close relationship between our two schools, this partnership creates a definitive pathway to the ministry for those interested students. Both Candler and LaGrange are committed to the education of future ordained and lay leaders of the United Methodist Church and its ecumenical partners.”

Georgia’s oldest private institution of higher learning, LaGrange College has been ranked as a top college and “best value” among 99 Southern regional colleges by U.S. News & World Report. A four-year liberal arts and sciences college affiliated with the United Methodist Church, LaGrange offers more than 50 areas of study with an emphasis on global engagement and service.
